The XC Ski Booster Club provides a warm “recovery meal" to our skiers for each scheduled bus trip and meet at Harriet Hollister and Bristol Mountain and hot-drinks-only for the Mt. Pittsford trips. We've found that this meal keeps the team healthier to participate in their sport. Saturday morning practices and meets at Mendon Ponds Park have been excluded as these trips are too short to serve a meal.
For each date, we need two hot dishes, a four gallon container of a warm drink (Gatorade, hot chocolate or cider), and three loaves of bread. For each trip, four families will be responsible for the meal; two provide hot dish, one provides a drink, and one provides bread. As of Nov. 15, 2008, no allergies have been reported for the 2008-2009 ski season, but we do need to provide at least one gluten-free dish per bus trip. A good website for gluten-free information is http://www.rochesterceliacs.org/
Bring the food to the back of the high school prior to 3:00pm when the bus leaves. We understand that some families are not able to leave work, so we have a list of people who are available in the afternoon to reheat your meal and drive it to FHS. As of December 6, 2008, these helpful people are Newcomb Losh (377-0532), Mike Tetlow (425-7849) and Melissa Tieslink (377-5617). If you are able to help, or need help, please call Judy Straw at 425-8801 or 259-6373.
The booster club owns a five gallon container for drinks, two 2 gallon containers for a hot dish, and several ladles. Several families also own their own containers and are willing to loan them out.
If it is your turn to provide a hot drink or a hot meal, it is your responsibility to track down a container. One way to do this is to look at the food schedule and have your child bring home the container the night before your turn. The schedule will also be posted in the team room for the skiers to refer to. An email on the list serve is also helpful. The family who prepared the hot meal or drink for that day should bring the container home to be washed if it is not picked up by the next family who is on the list. Then please return the clean containers to the team room the next day.
Check our Recipes page for info on making different quantities of hot drinks and our Assignments page to find out when we need you to bring in what. If you are not available for a day you were assigned, please change dates with another family.
Paper products will be supplied by the booster club. A bag with 30 spoons, 60 cups, napkins, garbage bag, and paper towel will be kept in the team room. We ask that the two skiers bringing a hot dish make sure that the bag is on the bus.
Check the Section V website race schedule page to ensure a meet/bus trip is still on the schedule for your day. Things can always change, usually due to where or if there is snow.
If you have any questions or problems, please call Judy Straw at 425-8801 or 259-6373.
